Welcome to the University of DØ!

Deans: Jenny Holzbauer (University of Mississippi) and Hang Yin (Fermilab)

The University of DØ lecture series ended on June 13, 2014. Past lectures are available on the lecture schedule page.

About the University of DØ

In early 2010, The University of DØ was reestablished with the goal of organizing academic-style lectures for the DØ collaborators, especially targeted towards the graduate students and postdocs. The topics will be mainly related to hadron colliders, from detector and accelerator design to analysis and theoretical developments. Lectures in this series will take place once every few weeks on a weekday from noon to 1 PM, with pizza provided to all attendees at the beginning of the session. We will always try to make special arrangements so that no other meetings occur during our session, in order to give everyone interested in attending the best opportunity to do so. Each session is scheduled with a significant portion of time set aside for questions and answers, both during and after the talk itself, so attendees are encouraged to bring their curiosity in addition to their appetites!

We believe that feedback from our target audience is critical to the success of the University of DØ. Please do not hesitate to contact us with comments and suggestions on any aspect of this program. We especially welcome your ideas about what interesting topics (and/or speakers) we should attempt to schedule in future sessions.

Part of our feedback strategy is to provide a survey to our prospective audience before each session. Polls may be filled out anonymously, and the poll results will remain confidential, so consider providing this feedback to us even if you are unable to attend the next lecture.

Please note our updated "pizza policy":

An integral part of planning for each lecture is to ensure having enough pizza for all the attendees of UDØ. This is why filling the poll for each lecture is essential for more accurately estimating the attendance and the pizza needed.

For that reason we institute the following pizza policy:

Attendees who fill in the poll, before NOON the day prior to the lecture, are welcome to pizza at 11:50 AM. Your name is now required on our poll, and a list with the names of people that filled in the poll will be compiled. Those who are NOT on this list of poll-responders are welcome to enjoy pizza starting at 12:05 PM. We will continue to try and order enough pizza to accommodate everyone, including those who have not taken the poll, and we hope this new policy will both help us reach that goal while also getting more feedback about our program through our polls

For those not affiliated with DØ: You should still fill out the poll and we welcome your participation! The lunch is $4 and includes pizza, salad, soda (pop) and of course the lecture. Filling out the poll does not obligate you to attend, it is just to give an idea of the attendance so we know how much pizza to order. This money can be paid as you get the pizza. Please bring exact change. Contact Barb Hehner if you have any questions.

The next University of DØ opportunity will be a hands-on experience for those interested in learning more about particle detectors. The DØ Assembly Building is currently hosting two cosmic ray telescope setups for the EDIT 2012 symposium. On Friday, February 24th, or Monday, February 27th, interested DØ collaborators will be able to participate in instructor-guided studies of these setups. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about and get hands-on experience with photomultiplier tubes!

If you are interested in this opportunity, please sign up using the link below now! We will try and accommodate all who are interested, but space is limited! A "full course" will include two half-day sessions, usually a morning and an afternoon session on the same day. We may be able to accommodate splitting half-day sessions between different days, if that is your only available schedule.

Please help us get an accurate count of participants and sign up today:
