                Modification of the D0 Authorship Rules
       Approved by the D0 Institutional Board on February 8, 2001
       ----------------------------------------------------------

1) There shall be separate Run 1 and Run 2 Author Lists, but only one
   D0 Masthead (which includes all those in Run 1 and Run 2).

2) Run 1 Author List:

   a) The current D0 author list will be the Run 1 D0 Author List.

   b) The rules to become a Run 1 D0 author continue to be:

      http://www-d0.fnal.gov/~madaras/authorlist/rules/d0_author_rules.txt, and
      http://www-d0.fnal.gov/~madaras/authorlist/rules/d0_specific_criteria.txt

   c) Any individual joining D0 after this proposal is approved by the IB
      can only meet the criteria for Run 1 authorship with Run 1 service
      tasks, and not with Run 2 service tasks.

   d) Any individual who has joined D0 before this proposal is approved by
      the IB can continue to meet the criteria for Run 1 authorship with
      Run 1 or with Run 2 service tasks.

3) Run 2 Author List:

   a) D0 will start a new Run 2 Author List for the physics publications 
      based on Run 2 data.

   b) All individuals need to qualify separately for the Run 2 Author List,
      using only Run 2 service tasks (and not Run 1 service tasks) to meet
      the criteria for authorship.  Past work on Run 2 service tasks counts
      (i.e. an individual who has been working for the last 5 years on an
      upgrade project can claim that time as service task work towards
      Run 2 authorship). Tasks on a Run 2B project are considered as Run 2
      service tasks.

   c) The rules to become a Run 2 D0 author will be the ones specified in:

      http://www-d0.fnal.gov/~madaras/authorlist/rules/d0_specific_criteria.txt

      with the following changes:

        1) The authorship retirement benefit will be 1 year for all those
           who leave D0 (independent of how long they worked on D0).

        2) Individuals who qualify for the Run 2 Author List will sign the
           first five Run 2 physics papers even if their 1 year retirement
           benefit is expired.

        3) The rules for narrow or short term (less than 12 months) 
           contributions is modified to specify a maximum of three physics
           papers.


The modification of the D0 Authorship Rules was proposed by an ad hoc
Committee on Authorship Rules (Ela Barberis, Tom Diehl, Laurent Duflot, and
Cecilia Gerber (chair)). On February 8, 2001, the D0 Institutional Board
slightly modified the proposal (changed 3 papers to 5 papers in item 3-c-2),
and approved the modified proposal.
