Single Paper Authorship Guildlines The following guidelines were approved by the Spokesmen and Authorship Committee on April 29, 2005, amended March 8, 2007. Guidelines for adding people to the author list of specific papers for which they have made very significant contributions: 1) The request for such authorship must be made in writing to the Chair of the Authorship Committee. The Committee will then review the request, and make a recommendation to the Spokesmen. The Spokesmen will make the final decision. 2) The person must have clearly made a significant contribution to the specific paper or the analysis on which the paper is based. The significant contributions must be well beyond normal contributions to D0 operations and analysis. General contributions to a group effort utilized by many analyses is not sufficient for authorship. The significant contributions must be described in detail in the request. 3) The request must be for only a single person, for a specific paper or specific papers. The paper(s) must be clearly identified. If the request is for more than one paper, the request must detail the significant contributions separately for each of the proposed papers. 4) The request needs to be supported, in writing, by the relevant physics group conveners. It is the responsibility of the requester to obtain and supply the convener support. It is much preferred to receive just one email containing the request and conveners support; multiple emails will delay the review of the request. 5) Along with the request must be a statement indicating: i) if the applicant is not yet a full author, what is the status of their qualifying for full authorship? When might that request be made? ii) if the applicant is not expected to ever become a full author, why not? iii) if the applicant is a former author, approximately when did their retirement benefits end? NOTE: Under normal circumstances, the authorship rules as approved by the Institutional Board and published in the D0 Governance Document, limits the number of papers to which a person may be granted authorship under these guidelines to three (3).
