cardfiles usage

SAM Query Problems:

Since retrieving the MC files in SAM depends on the metadata, themselves depending on the cardfiles naming scheme, we better clarify this scheme before ending up in difficulties or errors in retrieving files from SAM.
Some cards in different cardfiles sub-directories have the same name while they are DIFFERENT!!!
Some groups rewrite produced particles in the "decay string", others don't. So for example if you look for all Z->ee files, the production is either "z", "zgamma", " and the decay is either "ee" or "zee"!!! Having no clear conventions will sooner or later lead to some errors!!

Naming Scheme:

Generic card name (previous): generator_production_decay.cards (Ex: pythia_gam-z_ee.cards, herwig_qcd_incl.cards....)
Generic card name (current): generator_production_decay_model.comments.cards (Ex: pythia_gam-z_ee_n.jpsi-peak.cards, herwig_qcd_incl_n.no-isr.cards, pythia_t+tbar_wq+hpb_3q+taunutaub_2hdm-mhp100-tanb30.n.cards,...)

In order to easily separate those strings, the use of underscore characters is forbidden in the generator/production/model sub-strings. It is however allowed in the decay sub-string to allow the writting of intermediate steps in the decay chain (when necessary to resolve ambiguities)
The decay chain is now defined as the string between the second underscore (starting from the right) and the last one before the first dot.
the "model" string is used to write the Higgs, SUSY or other models name and parameters. Its default value is "n".

Ex.: pythia_glss-sq-pairs_jets+met+incl_msugra3-pt4-0-p.n.cards (SUSY model-tanb-m0%m1/2-A0-SIGNmu), pythia_z_ee_compos-l10-m.cards (Model: Compositeness, composite scale: lambda=10 TeV, SIGN interference term: minus)

the "comments" string is optional. It's used to mention a non-standard case. Its default value is "n".

Ex.: susygen_z1+z1_mumunue+muenumu_mssm3-pt1-p-rpv-l1-122.n.cards (SUSY model-tanb-m0%m1/2-A0-SIGNmu-Rparity violation-RPV coupling-flavor indices)

Rules:

lower cases only (to facilitate SAM queries)
I propose to adopt the following notation for the gamma*/Z->e+e- process: generator_gam-z_ee.cards
I propose to remove the produced particles from the decay string and just to write the daughters of different produced particles in the same order than the mothers, both separated by "+" signs. For example, instead of having pythia_zz_zee+zbbbar.cards we'd just write pythia_z+z_ee+bb.cards.
Remove "bar" everywhere we can. In general they don't resolve any ambiguities!!! Besides,we don't denote anything like pythia_gam-z_e+e-.cards or pythia_w_tbbar.cards or pythia_w_tbarb.cards but just pythia_gam-z_ee.cards and pythia_w_tb.cards. In case it does resolve an ambiguity (i.e. forcing the decays of 2 charge conjugates), one of course keeps the "bar".
If there are at least 3 identical particles in a string, their symbol is not rewritten N times, but rather the multiplicity is written is front of it. Ex.: pythia_z+z_ee+ee.cards -> pythia_z+z_4e.cards
When it is more convenient, topology strings can be used instead of particle ones. Ex. pythia_ttbar_bbbarqqbarqqbar.cards -> pythia_tt_2b4j.cards. Ex: pythia_glss-sq+w1_jets+lep+met... means that either the gluino or the squark decay to jets, the chargino decays to e or mu and each of gluino/squark/chargino contribute to the missing ET (met).
pythia_w-z-pairs_incl.cards stands for pythia_w+w_incl.cards, pythia_w+z_incl.cards and pythia_z+z_incl.cards. The "-" signs would mean OR. So for example: pythia_h_wzassociated_gamma+gamma.cards -> pythia_h+w-h+z_gamgam+incl.cards or pythia_h+w-h+z_2gam+incl.cards
For the fixed order ME generators:

Pythia: a generic Pythia+FOME cards will be available in both the cardfiles and in mcpp/doc/ (Ex: pythia_alpgen.cards)
