You should, in fact, never use RUN_TYPE. To elaborate on the values of trig_config_type: You should use trig_config_type = 'global' or 'physics' to get all physics runs for all data taken since the start of Run 2. These particular values (global, physics) are part of the criteria for luminosity normalization. All the criteria are in a D0 note currently in preparation.
