DØ Level 3 Algorithms Meeting: 14th
May 2003 in the Farside
Talks
- p15 status
- Jonathan Hayes - reports the p15 build (begun last night) finished
without crashing. Only 2 test failures observed: the perrenial l3tCalUnpTool
(see following entry) and the expected tsim_l3 (needs a triggerlist that
updates the tool parameter changes introduced in this release).
- Angela Bellavance - Now that the integrated test finally runs,
outout file differences are being flagged by l3tCalUnpTool's integrated
tests (maxopt vs default:debug). Both tests run the 2-event sample to completion
but the default reports more clusters/cells. Angela is pouring over the
code in an effort to overhaul it, but this should be done in concert with
Marumi who is presumably in the middle of rewriting the tool as well.

Pre-certification of Global Tracking: Tim Scanlon (IMPERIAL)
Track parameter distributions were shown for >100k events (run 166892).
DCA plots show a double peak, possibly due to off-center beam spot (evidenced
by the sinusoidal curve in the DCA vs phi scatterplot). A dip in the phi
distribution (at ~1) may point to a hardware problem. The total number of
clusters peaks at 17 (typically 8-10 axial and ~8 stereo seen).
Efficiencies of 80% (~flat, climbing toward 90% for track Pt < 2 GeV)
were reported, which include fakes. The efficiency for "Good" tracks was
closer to 65%. Current time estimates (mean = 37.4 +/- 45.71 msec on a 2.4GHz
processor) are significantly
distorted by a long tale (rare events with processing times >800msec).
Investigating.
- Muon Isolation: Yuri Gershtein (Brown)
Private version tests have been run on the new L3FdR filter (written by
Gustaaf, modelled after the L3FAcol filter). Its initial release failed
because the muon tool did not provide needed physics results, but it now
runs fine. Exercised over a variety of data samples (some 10s of K events)
show expected behavior and some promising rejection (factors of 3.5 - 5).
- Electron
Track Match Ulla Blumenschein (Mainz)
Track match efficiency was studied with picked Z->ee data (>600 events).
Using Global Tracker (fixed with Nhits>10 (SMT + CFT axial only) and
cutting on PTmin (7 and 13 GeV), a distribution of the di-electron invariant
mass (both central |eta|<1.6 with Et>20 GeV passing offline isolation
and H-matrix cuts) showed an L3 track match efficiency of 65%. This did
not change appreciably between 7 and 13 GeV track selection. Since it is
comparable to the reported Global Tracker efficiency, there is no suggestion
of track-matching problems. In fact, when matched the dR between track and
e <0.03 (for
high Pt electrons). The tool currently cuts at 0.1.
Discussion Items
- p15 Certification Plans (Rick Jesick) We have promised to
certify the release by 28-May. To facilitate this effort, tool authors/filter
testers should email their relevent triggerlist snippets to Rick. Rather
than waiting for the release of the v12 triggerlist, we will collate the
tool parameter/new filter changes into a test triggerlist. We will also
compile a list of everyone's favorite (MC and collider) data samples and
post the list to share.
