Cables

Discussion about ICD cables.  This includes information gained later from a conversation between L. Sawyer at LaTech, L. Bagby and L. Groer.  L. Bagby had a list of 3 pulser cables used for the ICD in Run I - North, South and spare.  These go from the movable counting house to the platform however.
ICD needs:
1. 128 black fanout-to-preamp connectors.  These will be about 38" in length.  They prefer right-angle connectors on both ends.  P. Liston found ~300 right-angle connectors + cable after the meetings.  The LaTech group will terminate these cables (requires soldering the middle connector and crimping the grounding sheath.  They will make about 150 cables to have some spares.

2. Pulser to fanout current cables:  These are the white, 10-twisted pair cables supplied by the French.  The ICD needs 2 per ICD box (attached to each winder on the endcap - 4 boxes total).  We will run one spare.  Later discussion brought up the possibility of using the French pulser to pulse the LEDs for the PMT calibration.  If so, they will need an extra cable per box (i.e. 3 + 1 spare).  L. Sawyer will check into this possibility next week and get back to us if this will be necessary.  The LaTech/UTA group will still need to run both high and low voltage cables - they should contact Marvin Johnson about these.  We will cut and run 100 ft cables for the ICD so that they can be terminated by the Orsay engineers coming week of July 19.  100 ft gives some extra for the run from the East to the West side. The ICD crate on the platform is PW04 - on the outside of the west side. L. Sawyer will be here that week as well.

3. Pulser to fanout trigger cables: The suggestion is to pull 3 (maybe 4?) of the yellow pulser cables from the bundles of 20 used for the calorimeter end-caps and run these down to the winders on each side.  This will be easy to do on the south side as they are detached at the moment but will need to be extracted on the north side.  The north side should be done next week while we are busy with the other cables.

   Organize and make labels for ICD cables at same time calorimeter labels are done.

The calorimeter pulser current cables have all been cut and bundled (24 x 7),  One bundle has been run to the NE side (preamp box 11) - there is a problem closing the box with all the cables in the back.  We need to either find space for them so that we can close the box or a possible solution is to make very short extender rods (2-3 inches) to allow the boxes to stay open a small amount - the time scale for this plus the need to remove and add rods with a box "hanging" over the side makes this an unlikely solution.  L. Bagby suggested we strip the sheath and make sure we can get all the cable in the box and close it, for at least one box.
The rest of the east side cables have been run to the bottom of the cryostat.  The cable tray for box 8 (SW side of CC) has been cut away to make way for the solnoid cooling.  The cable trays have been extended in the lateral direction however, so the space in these trays should(??) be suficient. The west side was being pulled from the platform to the bottom of the cryostat today.  The suggestion after the meeting was that we have two crews working on getting the cables up the side of the cryostats and into the preamp boxes.  We only have 3 sets of extender rods for pulling out preamp boxes, however.  We need to find a way to close the boxes.  All these cables need to be in place by Monday July 19.
Labels have been ordered and should be here next week.  L. Bagby has worked out the labelling scheme.
M. Gao, H. Fu and G. Uhrhan will help Victor and Kyle on these under the supervision of P. Liston.  M. Tuts will send mail to ensure we get Victor and Kyle's help next week.
 

The cut-cut-push connectors are done - awaiting a PO from Nevis.
The epoxied connectors did not fare well in heat tests (400^o C for 30 sec).  Donna at Circuitronics will try an automotive epoxy instead and send samples next week.  We will send 5 samples baked and 5 fresh to KTY for them to test.
KTY acceptance of the order still pending on various bits of paperwork.  L. Bagby working to resolve this.  We should (??) be days away from getting the PO once the order is accepted.  Parts (except for connectors) are all here and ready for shipping.  Will ship to Vista to send on to KTY.
M. Gao finished the motherboard redesign - ready for shipping soon.  Two versions (3.2 and 3.2b).  Will use 3 mA LEDs for power indication - adds an extra load of ~ 300 mA per power supply. Need to order the LEDs.
D. Huffman and L. Groer will check into power/current loads and whether the 2A fuses are correct.  Will order 1000 extra fuses and 3000 fuses in holders for motherboard production.

Monitor boards done.  Have readout boards and front panel - this info needs to be forwarded to Nevis - need to ensure they know which is front & back.  Cost info for steel boxes needed for Fermilab to issue PO's - M. Tuts will invesitgate.  Nevis is producing 25 more of the water manifolds - D. Huffman needs to check this number will be sufficient.  Silk screening of front panels can await the full production.
BLS power supply needs need to be understood as changing the transformers will be extremely difficult (custom made and heavy).  BLS preliminary specs are available but some board changes are being made by D. Schamberger - will this increase the power load?  M. Tuts asked if we could test the power supply performance during the solenoid tests in Aug.  Not sure if have 1553 readout available on platform.  D. Huffman doubts this will be an issue as flux in this region will be low (< few x 100 gauss?).

Not much development.  6" wafer production should have begun - 2 lots of 24 wafers will be produced.  Should be here beginning Sept (32 ordered).  P. Liston checking in to getting the 78 4" wafers packaged.  Not heard yet from the Hong Kong company yet if they have solution to the pad bonding problem.
Suggestion was to keep testing the packaged 4" SCA's in burn-in to learn what potential failure rate might be long term.

D. Elvira working on state transitions for the SCA's + error corrections.  This will change pin assignments which D. Schamberger will work on.  There are currently 6 commands and 4 states.  Expect 3rd prototype available around August?
