Pick Users Manual ================= 1.0 Introduction 2.0 Submitting, Monitoring and Retrieving your request. 3.0 Big and Small Lists 4.0 Reporting Problems 1.0 Introduction The Pick Events Facility (PEF) has been developed to provide easy user access to D0 data at the event level. Event lists are submitted by users via a simple procedure, to a central area on D0FS. These lists are processed by several servers in sequence. The tape and file information for each event in the list is extracted from the Production Data Base and varified through FATMEN. The jobs are run which mount each tape needed and copy all events requested to a central disk location. Users are notified when their lists have been processed allowing the events to be copied to a local disk. 2.0 Submitting, Monitoring and Retrieving your request. On the D0SFT and FNALD0 clusters there is a symbol "pick*events" defined for PEF. To submit your list, use the command PICK and answer 4 questions; 1)the name of the run-event list, 2) the raw data stream name, (e.g. EXPRESS or ALL) 3) the reco version (currently only the "latest" is available) 4) the offline stream name. For example, a typical list submission might look as follows: $PICK ******************************************************************** * * * Welcome to PICK EVENTS world * * * ******************************************************************** The user's manual can be found in: D0FSA::USR$ROOT21:[PICK_EVENTS.DOC]PICK_USERS_MANUAL.TXT 1 if you want to check your requests 2 if you want to submit request enter number : 2 Each record in Run_Event filename should contain a run and event number, seperated by spaces. Please enter Run_Event filename : test.list Please enter data_type [ STA ] : Please enter online stream (3 letters)[ ALL ]: Please enter reco version [latest](or 1210, for example): Please enter stream name [ALL]: filename : USR$ROOT21:[PICK_EVENTS.TEST]TEST.LIST;1 data type : STA online stream : ALL reco : stream name : ALL Do you want to submit this list ? [ N ]/ Y : Note: If you give stream name other than ALL, pick events will search through PDB stream_xxx table for filename. If you are not sure the events go to stream table, leave it default. The following lists the available stream names. Not all the streams are STA, some are just DST. The *'s mark the ones which are STA. RGE ELF * HLP * B1M TBG * QCR * MU1 * QGA TPJ * QEM * B2M * PI0 NPA * MIN * BSM * MET * TAU * TOP * WZD * The format of the list is RUN EVENT, for example, list.dat might look like the following: 50123 1234 !this is the first run and event 50123 2222 !this is the second 50111 6789 !and so on Once your events are picked, you should copy them to your own area by choosing "1" in the menu and following subsequent instructions. The data will remain in the D0$DATA$PICK area for about 2 weeks depends on the availability of free disk space. If there are no further requests asking for the same events, they will be archived to tape and deleted. To avoid uncontrolled access to RAW data tapes, which are considered a valuable and irreplacealbe resource, we require that users who want to pick raw events must get approved from a physics group convener, and give the request to Gouliang Wang (FNALD0::WANGGL). 3.0 Big and Small Lists Requests should be submitted in one list and not broken into several smaller pieces. This is due to the way PEF assigns priorities. By breaking your lists into several pieces, you unfairly monopolize the utility preventing others from picking their events. Any attempt trying to speed the process by deviding a large list into small ones to submit is PROHIBITED! ^^^^^^^^^^^ 4.0 Reporting Problems Please send all ploblems, comments, suggestions to FNALD0::HEURING or FNALD0::WANGGL.
