DØ Current Daily Run Plan

The Run Plan can be found at http://www-d0.fnal.gov/runcoor/runplans/runplan.html

The Run Plan Standard Instructions can be found at
http://www-d0.fnal.gov/runcoor/runplans/runplan_standard.html

This run plan covers:

From : Owl shift Sep 8, 2001
Through: Eve shift Sep 9, 2001
Current Magnet configuration:
Toroid: Forward
Solenoid: Forward

Detector, online and trigger groups need to send needs and requests for special running conditions and work to d0runrequests@fnal.gov

Requests for access should be sent to d0accessrequests@fnal.gov.

Priorities for next Store

  • Global runs with global_CalMuon-1.0 trigger. Keep data rates at about 8 Hz.
  • FPD studies during the Owl shift and special studies on Saturday morning. See Andrew Brandt's note for details. Contact both the MCR and CDF before starting these studies.
  • Special tests of the L3 filter code. Requires Jon Hays or Amber.
  • Special tests of the L3 Linux farm running if not disruptive to data taking - Requires Gustaaf and Reiner.
  • General note for special runs: Experts need to be identified for any special run and should provide a means of contact (pager preferably). If there is trouble starting up a special run and experts cannot be located or contacted, then the run should be put "on hold" until further notice by the Commissioning coordinators.
  • Special Note about Crates: Crates that are too unstable i.e. they cause a hang of the DAQ more than once an hour, are not to be run in global runs with colliding beam unless (i) experts are present and (ii) actively working on debugging the problem. The crate can be run in a separate run if it does not intefere with the global run.
  • Priorities when NOT in Store

  • L3 hardware VRC tests.
  • Special tests of the L3 filter code. Requires Jon Hays or Amber.
  • Allow detector experts to work on their crates.
  • Test of L3 Linux Farm from Friday onwards - contact Gustaaf Brooijmans.
  • If there is no beam in the machine, a zero-bias run with all the SMT HV on to study noise issues has been requested by Suyong Choi. This data will be coordinated between SMT (Eric Kajfasz and Petros Rapidis) and Suyong. SMT shifter should contact Eric or Petros if there will be no beam in the Tevatron for at least an hour. 20k events are needed and can be taken at high rate (20 Hz). Any information on HV trips (if any should occur) should be recorded in the e-log. The Captain should include the run in the shift-dataset for processing by the RECO farm and send mail to d0-farms@fnal.gov to let them know the run number/s to process.
  • Cosmic Ray runs if no beam. Halo runs if there is a proton or anti-proton only store.
  • FPD would like to notified whenever there will be no beam in the Tevatron for any period of one hour or more (FPD pager 630 266-2635). They will conduct pot motion tests of new software and hardware features.
  • Status and Plans

Store 688 is colliding (init. Lum 5.8E30) and will be kept until Monday. There are Tevatron beam studies planned for the end of store, starting Sunday night.

There will be a supervised access starting Monday Sep 10 08:00 through Wed Sep 12 16:00.

Note: Contact Gregor Geurkov if there will be proton or anti-proton only running to conduct luminosity timing studies.

The default trigger configuration file for collisions was updated recently to global_CalMuon-1.0.xml. This trigger configuration emphasizes muon triggers and some high Et jet and EM triggers and includes di-muon and di-em triggers and now includes L3 filtering. Note the special instructions in the trigger file and prescale file about setting prescales for the L3 triggers. For global data taking during curfew (21:00-09:00), use 8 L3 nodes, for other times use 6 L3 nodes.
Shifters should take note of the following for each trigger:

Trig Name Fired rate AND/OR rate Prescale

DAQ Shifters should set prescales to maintain the desired data rates as specified in the trigger files. These rates should be kept to about 7-8 Hz for now, not to swamp the offline processing farm. Captains should check to make sure the rates make sense and are within the desired ranges. Contact the Triggermeisters or the Commissioning Coordinators if there are problems.

For no colliding beam these are the trigger files:
    Cosmics cosmics-1.0.xml
    Zero-bias zero_bias_only-1.3.xml
    Proton store proton_halo_only-1.2.xml
    Anti-proton store pbar_halo_only-1.2.xml

Shift Captains must make a SAM dataset for good runs at the END OF EVERY SHIFT! Use SAM dataset web page (see the Standing Instructions).

Note to Captains:The Operations Technicians are taking care of the safety walk through represented on the 3rd page of the Captain's checklist. Captains are still responsible for safety walkthroughs on the first two pages including the 2nd floor of the Fixed Counting House. Heidi Schellman has put together a very useful Pictorial Guide to components in the Control Room and in DAB.
