DØ Current Daily Run Plan

The Run Plan can be found at http://www-d0.fnal.gov/runcoor/runplans/runplan.html

The Run Plan Standard Instructions can be found at
http://www-d0.fnal.gov/runcoor/runplans/runplan_standard.html

This run plan covers:

From : Owl shift Sep 15, 2001
Through: Eve shift Sep 15, 2001
Current Magnet configuration:
Toroid: Forward
Solenoid: Reverse

Detector, online and trigger groups need to send needs and requests for special running conditions and work to d0runrequests@fnal.gov

Requests for access should be sent to d0accessrequests@fnal.gov.

Priorities for the current Store

  • Global runs with the new trigger file global_CalMuon-1.1.xml trigger. Keep data rates at about 12-20 Hz if possible. Readout problems with L3 were limiting the rate into L3 to < 20 Hz and the rate out to 11-12 Hz.
SMT will be out of the run until their HV modules are replaced. The Captain should include these runs in the shift-dataset for processing by the RECO farm and send mail to d0-farms@fnal.gov to let them know that the shift set should be processed with high priority to determine if the triggers are performing correctly.
  • At a convenient break in the data-taking, Maarten Litmaath has asked that the Collector/Router be killed and restarted to get a new version. This version should be more robust to bad data sent from L3.
  • FPD plans to put their pots in during the store. See the FPD pot motion run plan.
  • General note for special runs: Experts need to be identified for any special run and should provide a means of contact (pager preferably). If there is trouble starting up a special run and experts cannot be located or contacted, then the run should be put "on hold" until further notice by the Commissioning coordinators.
  • Special Note about Crates: Crates that are too unstable i.e. they cause a hang of the DAQ more than once an hour, are not to be run in global runs with colliding beam unless (i) experts are present and (ii) actively working on debugging the problem. The crate can be run in a separate run for debuggin if it does not intefere with the global run.
  • Priorities when NOT in Store

  • Scott Snyder has identified a memory leak in COOR but will not release a fix for the next few weeks as he will be out of the country. Suggestion is to restart COOR once every day or two.
  • Allow detector experts to work on their crates.
  • Test of L3 Linux Farm - contact is Gustaaf Brooijmans or Reiner Hauser.
  • Cosmic Ray runs if no beam. Halo runs if there is a proton or anti-proton only store.
  • Ensure detectors take decent calibration files in preparation for collisions.
  • Status and Plans

Store 700 is colliding and will be kept until at least Sunday. The Pbar stack will be used for Recycler shots on Saturday. Depending on the Tevatron luminosity and the Pbar stack, another shot may occur on Sunday.

The default trigger configuration file for collisions was updated Sep 14 to global_CalMuon-1.1.xml. This trigger configuration emphasizes muon, jet and EM triggers and includes di-muon and di-em triggers. There are L3 filters for the 2 lower ET jet and EM trigger. Note the special instructions in the trigger file and prescale file about setting prescales for the L3 triggers. For global data taking during curfew (21:00-09:00), use 8 L3 nodes, for other times use 6 L3 nodes.
Shifters should take note of the following for each trigger:

Trig Name Fired rate AND/OR rate Prescale

DAQ Shifters should set prescales to maintain the desired data rates as specified in the trigger files. The desired rate should be kept to about 20 Hz to 12 Hz out of L3. If the rate falls below 12 Hz, the run should be stopped and prescales set to increase the rate. Captains should check to make sure the rates make sense and are within the desired ranges. Contact the Triggermeisters or the Commissioning Coordinators if there are problems.

For no colliding beam these are the trigger files:
    Cosmics cosmics-1.0.xml
    Zero-bias zero_bias_only-1.3.xml
    Proton store proton_halo_only-1.2.xml
    Anti-proton store pbar_halo_only-1.2.xml

Shift Captains must make a SAM dataset for good runs at the END OF EVERY SHIFT. Use the SAM dataset web page (see the Standing Instructions for details).

Note to Captains: The Operations Technicians are taking care of the safety walk through represented on the 3rd page of the Captain's checklist. Captains are still responsible for safety walkthroughs on the first two pages including the 2nd floor of the Fixed Counting House. Heidi Schellman has put together a very useful Pictorial Guide to components in the Control Room and in DAB.
