For the remaining stores until the shutdown the goal is stable, global data taking. No changes to detectors, electronics, software/software parameters should be done without specific approval of the Run Coordinator. Downtime should be minimized to fixing serious problems which prevent data taking. Captains are charged with enforcing this goal.
This run plan covers:
Current Situation and Plans
Current Magnet configuration:
Shot setup expected Sat night after the controlled access. Goals for the
beginning of the shift are
to get to stable data taking with as many of the crates as
possible, with the caveat that unstable crates should be removed from the run
and the experts contacted.
Priorities for the current Store
Priorities when NOT in Store
There are (temporary) instructions from Moacyr Souza <moacyr@fnal.gov>
on restarting the L3 monitor that feeds information to the DAQ monitor
display if the process hangs. If the information is not updating in the
Level 3 page of the DAQ display:
General note for special runs: Experts need to be identified for
any special run and should provide a means of contact (pager
preferably). If there is trouble starting up a special run and experts cannot
be located or contacted, then the run should be put "on hold" until
further notice by the Commissioning coordinators.
For no colliding beam these are the trigger files:
Shift Captains must make a SAM dataset for good runs at the END OF EVERY
SHIFT. Use the SAM dataset web page (see the Standing Instructions for details).
Note to Captains: The Operations Technicians are taking care of the
safety walk through represented on the 3rd page of the Captain's checklist.
Captains are still responsible for safety walkthroughs on the first two pages
including the 2nd floor of the Fixed Counting House. Heidi Schellman has
put together a very useful
Pictorial Guide
to components in the Control Room
and in DAB.
The default running condition is with the global trigger list, with all
available crates. The current list is the
global_CalMuon-1.4.xml trigger which now includes L1 central di-muon
triggers. Keep the prescales according to the
instructions of the Trigger
Meisters and see the
instructions
for tuning rates depending on beam conditions.
Use all available L3 nodes by entering "0" in the run parameters box - this
should get 9 nodes if no-one else is running. Tests of the L3 system
indicate that we should be able to sustain rates of 15-20 Hz but with the
instabilities seen in the DAQ lower rates might need to be maintained to
get stable running. Keep the unprescaled
triggers and tune the prescaled triggers to maintain the desired output
rate based on the instructions in the trigger files.
Assuming we still have colliding beam, the Day shift should conduct a special
run for Jet energy scale calibrations. Take 100k events.
Solenoid: Off, Toroid: Reverse. Contact Gregor Geurkov to change the
luminosity electronics for the no-solenoid field condition.
Trigger: global_CalMuon-1.4.xml, but prescale away the muon and
the CFT coverage triggers and enhance the jet and EM triggers. Keep the
min-bias and zero-bias triggers. In particular
the triggers to keep are:
CEM(1,5), CEM(1,10), CEM(1,20), CJT(1,5), CJT(1,10),
CJT(1,40), CEM(2,5), CEM(2,10).
Crates: Make sure that the calorimeter crates have the correct
pedestals
and that hot cells have been suppressed. Other crates can stay in the run
but are not critical.
After 100k events, turn the solnoid on again and continue with normal global
runs.
This should restart the server.
ps -aux | grep l3LumServer_x
If you do see the process running, kill it by using
kill -15 xxxxxxx
where xxxxxxx is the process id number for the first 'l3LumServer_x'
process.
