The main goal of the DAQ shifter and Captain is to support the commissioning
efforts, to ensure the DAQ and crates are functional when not being used
in test modes and to run cosmics triggers in anticipation of the run startup.
AFE installation and commissioning efforts still take priority from 07:00-00:00.
Any work that will be disruptive to
others (e.g. DAQ system tests,
L3 tests, TFW work, sDAQ etc.) needs to be agreed to and scheduled by the
Commissioning Coordinators or Run Coordinators. Send mail to
d0runrequests@fnal.gov.
We have 24/7 coverage of the DAQ shifter with Captains on Days only until Nov 21. We will take advantage of the fact that the detector is closed to run cosmics during the OWL shifts and during EVE shifts there is no other commissioning activites. The EVE DAQ shifter can still be on-call if there are no immediate needs in the Control Room (e.g. experts are working on their systems and do not need immediate assistance). The DAQ shifter should leave a contact number on the DAQ console. Shifts still may be cancelled, but this will be decided on a day-to-day basis.
For cosmic ray running there are two files:
cosmics-1.1.xml - does not include the L2 crates
cosmics-1.2.xml - contains the L2 crates in non-readout mode
Separate takers and runs can be taken during DAY/EVE shifts. If there are conflicts, the Captain or DAQ shifter should arbitrate. Contact the Commissioning or Run Coordinator if need be.
If crates are not being used for commissioning purposes, a global cosmic or zero bias run should be taken by the DAQ shifter to ensure the DAQ functionality. Detector experts should clearly indicate the status of crates on the white board in the Control Room. DAQ shifters should contact subsystem experts if there are problems running.
Captains during the DAY shift and DAQ shifters are still responsible for the safety walk-throughs. Captains are responsible for handing out keys during DAY shift. The Operations shifters are responsible for keys during EVE and OWL shifts. People need to have their training up to date to get a Supervised Access key. Contact Bill Freeman if there are problems. Training needed is:
Planned Special Runs or Activities
| Time | Activity | Impact on DAQ etc. |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday Nov 15 09:00-12:00 | Level 3 commodity tests - installtion in TFW crate | Disruptive to all primary and secondary DAQ runs. Secondary DAQ should be up quickly. Primary DAQ may take longer. L3 personnel must ensure that the primary DAQ is operational at the conclusion of their tests. |
| Friday Nov 16 23:59 | Search and Secure and Controlled Access | The hall will be secured from 01:00 to 07:00 Satuday Nov 17 for tests of
the low-beta quadrupole magnets and the D0 toroids.
ALL SUPERVISED ACCESS KEYS MUST BE RETURNED BY 6 PM FRIDAY. ONLY PEOPLE WITH APPROVAL FROM LESLIE GROER OR DMITRI DENISOV WILL BE ALLOWED IN FRIDAY EVENING. |
Note to Captains: The Operations Technicians are taking care of the safety walk through represented on the 3rd page of the Captain's checklist. Captains are still responsible for safety walkthroughs on the first two pages including the 2nd floor of the Fixed Counting House. Heidi Schellman has put together a very useful Pictorial Guide to components in the Control Room and in DAB.
