Current Situation and Plans
Store 818 is colliding and will be dumped around 8:00 Tuesday morning.
There will be Tevatron studies until Thursday Owl shift at which time we
expect shot setup. There will be stores the remainder of the week.
There will be a Controlled Access Wednesday from 10:00-14:00. Write your
access requests on the white board in the control room.
The new global trigger file is the default:
global_CalMuon-2.1.xml which has corrections for the jet and EM
thresholds for the L3 trigger. There are prescale files for 2, 3, 5.4 and
6E30.
The main task of the shift crew is to collect data in stable runs. Maximum
input rate into Level 3 will be dictated by stable running; the Trigger
Meisters will help determine this at the beginning of stores.
By default, all crates should be included in global runs unless
experts have removed them. Experts should be contacted if there are problems
with any of the readout crates.
The FPD is planning end of store studies - these need to be coordinated
with the MCR and CDF. In particular, CDF would like to be informed about
which pots are being moved.
The major shift tasks are:
- Keep DAQ running collecting colliding beam data and cosmics or
beam halo data. Recording must
be kept ON for all runs.
- All test runs and trigger configurations must be stopped and freed before starting the global data taking run with colliding beam.
- Include all front-end and readout crates in the data taking; experts have
to be called in the case of problems. CFT will be read out in sparsified mode.
Detector experts should clearly indicate the status of crates
on the white board in the Control Room.
- Conduct Captain and shifters' walkthroughs, fill check lists and
report all problems to experts.
- Run all detectors at full voltages (beam conditions permitting).
- Monitor beam losses and silicon radiation doses.
- Help experts with short controlled accesses.
- Run all detector Examines under Detector shifter control. Report any
problems to the subdetector coordinators. Until further notice the Global Examine is broken and need not be run.
- Run DØ event display
- When there is no beam, calibration runs should be taken. These runs
should be coordinated with the DAQ shifter.
- Captains are reminded that they are responsible for creating shiftsets
for data to be reprocessed on the farms.
- People have requested that the shift summary report still be mailed to
d0shifters, as well as posting on D0news. If many people on d0shifters
do not wish to see this, we will set up a separate mailing list.
Any work that will be disruptive to data taking during colliding beam
(e.g. DAQ system tests, L3 tests, TFW work, sDAQ etc.) must be approved
by the Run Coordinator.
All work in the MCH must be done with the full knowledge and presence
of the experts and can only occur during times when there is no colliding
beam. No cables, configurations, crates etc should be changed
without the experts explicit approval.
Also the shift captain and DAQ shifter must be kept informed of
any activity in the MCH and this work needs to be
recorded in the electronic
logbook, with the names of the people involved.
For colliding beam, the default file is now:
- global_CalMuon-2.1.xml
with the appropriate prescale files (currently 2, 3, 5.4 and 6E30).
See the Trigger Meister comments in the trigger file for setting prescales.
For cosmic ray running there are two files:
- cosmics-1.1.xml - does not include the L2 crates
- cosmics-1.2.xml - contains the L2 crates in non-readout mode
For proton-only beam running:
- proton_halo_only-1.2.xml
Planned Special Runs or Activities
No special run requests at the moment.
