Current Situation and Plans

Store 843 is colliding. Beam studies will be starting during the day shift.

The main task of the shift crew is to collect data in stable runs. Maximum input rate into Level 3 will be dictated by stable running; the Trigger Meisters will help determine this at the beginning of stores. By default, all crates should be included in global runs unless experts have removed them, with the exception of the CFT (see below). Experts should be contacted if there are problems with any of the readout crates.

The FPD plans to move the pots during a store. There is a new plan agreed to by Run Coordinator and the Beams Division (see Standard Run Plan). A FPD shifter will be present for all pot motion. Before any pot motions the MCR and CDF must be informed. In particular, CDF would like to be informed about which pots are being moved.

The major shift tasks are:

Any work that will be disruptive to data taking during colliding beam (e.g. DAQ system tests, L3 tests, TFW work, sDAQ etc.) must be approved by the Run Coordinator.

All work in the MCH must be done with the full knowledge and presence of the experts and can only occur during times when there is no colliding beam. No cables, configurations, crates etc should be changed without the experts' explicit approval. Also the shift captain and DAQ shifter must be kept informed of any activity in the MCH (this includes test systems for L2, STT, etc.) and this work needs to be recorded in the electronic logbook, with the names of the people involved.

CFT Operations

Until further notice, to aid debugging and commissioning the CFT, the following plan is in effect. When there is no colliding beam, the CFT crates are under the control of the CFT shifter.

During colliding beam:

  1. The CFT shifter will communicate with the Captain and DAQ shifter and request whether the CFT crates (0x50,0x51,0x52,0x53) are to be included in the primary global run or not.
  2. If desired by the CFT shifter, CFT crate(s) will be excluded from the global run and sDAQ runs with the CFT only may be run independently.
  3. If independent CFT pDAQ runs or unsuppressed CFT running in the global runs are requested, the Run Coordinator must approve the run. This does not apply to sDAQ runs.
  4. Once debugging work with one or more CFT crates has been completed and the crates are available for more than an hour for regular running, the CFT shifter should inform the Captain and DAQ shifter that the crate(s) are available for global runs. These crates must be run in suppressed mode. The global run should not be stopped just to include these crates, but the next natural, convenient break in the run should be used to include the crates.

Standard Trigger Files

For colliding beam, the default file, which has been tested with colliding beam, is now:

global_CalMuon-3.0.xml
with the appropriate prescale files. See the Trigger Meister comments in the trigger file for setting prescales. The backup trigger file is still global_CalMuon-2.1.xml.

For cosmic ray running there are two files:

cosmics-1.1.xml - does not include the L2 crates
cosmics-1.2.xml - contains the L2 crates in non-readout mode
For proton-only beam running:
proton_halo_only-1.2.xml

Planned Special Runs or Activities

None at the moment

See the Special Run Request Binder for details
Special runs need approval by the Run Coordinator, the Trigger Meisters and the Trigger Board chairs. Forms are available in the Special Run Requests binder in the control room.
