Alan Stone will be Acting Run Coordinator: pager (630) 218-8991.

Current Situation and Plans

  • From Tues Nov 12 eve through Tues Nov 19 owl, the Tevatron will be in Stack 'n Store mode. Shot setups will be determined by stack size, preferably >140 mA and by the Accelerator Operations status.
  • There will be about five shifts of beams studies, likely to begin on the day shift of Tue Nov 19.
  • Joe Kozminski would like to do L1 CAL noise studies & rate tests between stores. He wants to be notified shortly before stores are about to end between the hours of 06:00-23:00 - if there will be at least an hour with no beam in the Tevatron. His email address is jkozmins@fnal.gov, his office number is x3983, and his home number is in the call list.
  • Only the DAQ Shifter should issue the SCLinits during global physics data taking, with the exception of clearing Muon Readout errors (MDT crate going out-of-sync OR L2 missing PDT input). In an effort to reduce the overall deadtime - muon readout errors can be detected and cleared more quickly by the Muon Shifter than with intervention from the DAQ Shifter - the Muon Shifter will issue SCL inits, document them and provide the DAQ Shifter with a summary of Muon required sclinits at the end of the shift.
  • If any of the CFT or L1CTT crates - x13,x50,x51,x52,x53 - exhibit 100% L1 FEB, the DAQ Shifter should NOT issue a SCL init. Instead, inform the CFT shifter who has a specific instruction set to follow.
  • Stu Fuess and Jim Fitzmaurice will be replacing many of the nodes at the consoles throughout the Control Room over the next few weeks, beginning with L2, Lumi and L3, followed by FPD, DAQ and CFT. The work will be timed to minimize disruption of normal activities, including data taking. Also, the Ops crew will be installing mounts for flat screens similar to the SMT console. If their work appears to be disruptive at a given time, let them know.
  • The Shift Captain should call the MCR at the beginning of each shift and as needed to keep up with dynamic schedule of the Tevatron. The MCR may give D0 quiet time or a Controlled Access (CA). Page Dmitri Denisov for CA approval. See the whiteboard for CA requests.
Read the D0 Logbook before your shift in order to be better prepared!

The D0 Shift Schedule

  • D0 Shift Calendar
  • All Captain and DAQ shifts are 24/7.
  • There are Special Instructions for SMT Shifters.
  • Detector shifters can be on-call for an owl shift:
    1. if there is no Store
    2. if MCR states there is no shot setup scheduled between midnight and 08:00
    3. if there are no subsystem tasks to perform (calibration, special runs, monitoring)
    4. if the Shift Captain & subsystem coordinator(s) are in agreement
Shifters must report in with the Shift Captain to give a contact number before leaving.
  • All other shifts during the week are ON.

Magnet Polarities

(from Tuesday 08:00 November 12)
   Solenoid = Forward
   Toroid   = Reverse

(from Tuesday 08:00 November 19)

Trigger Configurations

global_CMT-9.30.xml
  • Rules for Changing Prescales - choose the prescale set which has a name closest to the Luminosity at the start of the run.
  • Available prescale sets for the above trigger are:  05E30, 10E30, 15E30, 20E30, 25E30, 30E30, 35E30, 40E30, 45E30 and 50E30. If help is needed with additional prescales, contact the Triggermeisters.
  • In this configuration, we see L1/L2/L3 rates of 250-600/100-250/25-50 Hz, which is primarily a function of the instantaneous luminosity. A good effort should be made to keep the average global FEB rate below 2%.

Global Monitoring: Trigger & Physics Examines

  • Main Global Monitoring page.
  • Global Monitoring (GM) is being coordinated by Pushpa Bhat. The GM console, d0ol33, is reserved for the GM shifter during scheduled shifts when there is beam. Useful information, numbers and plots should be inserted into the logbook under the GM tab.
  • The name of an institution will be listed next to the GM shifter when the Global Monitoring shift is being run remotely. A reliable system of communication between the remote GM shifter and the D0 Control Room is still in development.
  • Online Data Monitoring - Current status of Online Monitoring and Examine instructions.
  • The Shift Captain should continue to run the vertex examine (currently on d0ol27). Michiel Sanders has documented the Vertex Examine Instructions in PDF and HTML. For reference, look at the VE plots entered in the logbook during previous shifts.

Recorded Physics Run Limit

  • 4 hours

  •     or
  • 500,000 events

  •     or
  • Inst. Rate
    in Taker < 25 Hz

Periods Without a Shot Setup or Colliding Beams

  • During non-colliding beam, the  zero_bias_3L1L2L3_1out-1.00.xml  trigger should be run with all available crates to exercise the DAQ as long as this does not conflict with commissioning or calibration efforts. By default, 'Recording' should be ON as we would like to monitor the full data path from the detectors to tape at the Feynman Computing Center. There are three trigger bits with prescales which have been tuned both to exercise the L1, L2 and L3 rates and to send an average of 1 Hz to tape. The prescales should only be changed by or with approval of the triggermeisters.
