    • The final closure of the D0 detector will take place during the Day shift Sat Feb 1.
    • We will resume 24/7 shift coverage from the Day shift Mon Feb 3.
    • The Tevatron post-shutdown recovery is progressing ahead of schedule. We expect beam circulating in the Tevatron on the Day shift Mon Feb 3 and the first store planned for Thu Feb 6. There may be limited Controlled or Supervised Access to the D0 Collision Hall during this period.
    • There are two cosmic triggers in the official/special area:
      cosmics-2.00.xml
      cosmics-2.10.xml (extra trigger using L3 matched track muons)

      During the next several days before collisions, please exercise the DAQ with a global cosmic run using all available crates WHEN:
      1. it does not negatively impact efforts to test or fix other systems, and
      2. there is no beam in the machine so the Muon HV can be safely raised to full
      Tune prescales to maximize L1 & L2 rates, while minimizing rate to tape (10 Hz or less). Refer to the Trigger Database for information on which triggers have rejection at L2 and L3.
    • The Shift Captain should call the MCR at the beginning of each shift and as needed to keep up with dynamic schedule of the Tevatron. The MCR may give D0 quiet time or a Controlled Access (CA). Page Dmitri Denisov for CA approval. See the whiteboard for CA requests.
    • Read the D0 Logbook before your shift in order to be better prepared!

    Magnet Polarities

    13 Jan - 3 Feb:   Magnets will be powered down & locked out.

    (from Tuesday 08:00 February 4)

       Solenoid = Reverse
       Toroid   = Forward

    (from Tuesday 08:00 February 11)

       Solenoid = Reverse
       Toroid   = Reverse

    Trigger Configurations

    global_CMT-10.00.xml
    • Rules for Changing Prescales - choose the prescale set which has a name closest to the Luminosity at the start of the run.
    • Available prescale sets for the above trigger are:  05E30, 10E30, 15E30, 20E30, 25E30, 30E30, 35E30, 40E30, 45E30 and 50E30. If help is needed with additional prescales, contact the Triggermeisters.
    • In this configuration, we see L1/L2/L3 rates of 500-1000/250-500/30-60 Hz, which is primarily a function of the instantaneous luminosity. If the rates are too high - L1>1200 or L2>600 - contact the Triggermeister. A good effort should be made to keep the average global FEB rate below 5%.

    The D0 Shift Schedule

    • D0 Shift Calendar
    • All Captain and DAQ shifts are 24/7.
    • Shifters can be on-call:
      1. if there is no Store,
      2. if MCR states there is no shot setup expected for 4 or more hours,
      3. if the situation with the sub-detector is stable,
      4. if there are no sub-detector tasks to perform (calibration, special runs, monitoring), and
      5. if the Shift Captain is in agreement
    • Calorimeter and Muon Shifters do not need confirmation from their sub-detector coordinators. However, there are Special Instructions which Muon Shifters must follow before leaving.
    • For the SMT & CFT/PS/FPS sub-detectors, the Shift Captain will need approval from their sub-detector coordinators (Eric/Breese or George respectively) before releasing the shifters:
    • Shifters must report in with the Shift Captain to give a contact number before leaving.

    Recorded Physics Run Limit

    • 4 hours

    •     or
    • 500,000 events

    •     or
    • Inst. Rate
      in Taker < 25 Hz

    Global Monitoring: Trigger & Physics Examines

    • Main Global Monitoring page.
    • Global Monitoring (GM) is being coordinated by Pushpa Bhat. The GM console, d0ol33, is reserved for the GM shifter during scheduled shifts when there is beam. Useful information, numbers and plots should be inserted into the electronic logbook under the GM tab.
    • The name of an institution will be listed next to the GM shifter when the Global Monitoring shift is being run remotely. There is a GM Web Communicator GUI to be used by the Shift Captain, remote GM Shifter, and other shifters as needed. The interface is very simple; shifters communicate via typed text. The gui should be open by default on the Captain console. If not, the gui can be launched with the following command sequence: setup d0online; start_daq gmwebcom.
    • Online Data Monitoring - Current status of Online Monitoring and Examine instructions.
    • The Shift Captain should continue to run the vertex examine (currently on d0ol27). Michiel Sanders has documented the Vertex Examine Instructions in PDF and HTML. For reference, look at the VE plots entered in the logbook during previous shifts.

    Periods Without a Shot Setup or Colliding Beams

    • During non-colliding beam, the  zero_bias_3L1L2L3_1out-1.00.xml  trigger should be run with all available crates to exercise the DAQ as long as this does not conflict with commissioning or calibration efforts. By default, 'Recording' should be ON as we would like to monitor the full data path from the detectors to tape at the Feynman Computing Center. There are three trigger bits with prescales which have been tuned both to exercise the L1, L2 and L3 rates and to send an average of 1 Hz to tape. The prescales should only be changed by or with approval of the triggermeisters.
