Minutes of STT meeting 8 December 2000

Agenda:

People present at meeting:
Sulika Bose, Hal Evans, Ulrich Heintz, John Hobbs, Bill Lee, Steve Linn, Jim Linnemann (via speaker-phone), Axel Naumann, Evgeny Popkov, Georg Steinbrueck, Wendy Taylor, Silvia Tentindo-Repond, Horst Wahl

Minutes:

  1. CTT multiplicity estimates [Steve Linn]
see Steve's note: ps , pdf
"Correct" CTT broadcasting now included in simulator. Most numbers (CTT tracks, clusters,...) agree with those obtained by Meenakshi using old trigger simulation tool, with one notable exception: number of hits in road is much larger now (factor 8!) than in MN's note.

  2. status of tracking algorithms [Wendy Taylor]
see Wendy's transparencies: ppt , pdf

  3. report from run2b meeting -- APV25 issues [Hal Evans]
Hal's transparencies are available in ppt and pdf format.
Yesterday there was a meeting between CMS and DØ people to further discuss the issues related to the use of the APV25 chip for SMT read-out in run 2b.
The choice is between SVX4 and APV25. Fermilab is committed to develop SVX4 (development cost estimated at 600M$), and also to guaranteeing that it will be useful for both CDF and DØ, if DØ is interested. Therefore the SVX4 chip would be essentially compatible with what we have now (nearly a "drop-in" chip). The advantage of the APV25 chip is that it exists -- no development necessary. The drawback is that a big chunk of the data acquisition hardware will have to be replaced if DØ decides to adopt APV25: VRB, VBC, VTM,...
In addition, is has strong implications for the STT.

  4. other status reports

  5. discussion about schedule
-- how are we doing with the schedule, what are the problem areas -- do we need help -- any way to speed things up?

  6. trigger simulator status, plans [Silvia]

  7. other software tasks
