The Speakers' Bureau has slightly updated its procedures at the beginning of its term (Fall 2003), as outlined in the following minutes of the first SB meeting: According to the SB original chart: ----------------------------------- -D0 speakers are selected based on the following criteria: Depth of contribution to topic. Need for talk for promotion/job hunting Desire to talk/ previous talk history Institutional distribution Deservedness (history of hard work) Recommendation of appropriate physics convenors or hardware/software advisors The above criteria are not in order of importance. Not more than one talk per calendar year is arranged by the SB. Comments/addendum: ----------------- In practice, due to the larger and more international collaboration, the SB estimates that the talk frequency will be closer to one talk every 2 years. In any case, the SB will refrain from assigning more than one physics talk every two years at highly visible conferences, since they are the ones most in demand. Talks will be assigned only to D0 authors (except for APS or equivalent) Detector talks, or talks at workshops without proceedings will not count as a full D0 talk. For instance one could get 1 detector talk and 1 physics talk the same year. What is a D0 talk?: ------------------- Standard D0 talk: a talk assigned by the SB (about D0, or more) Non-Standard D0 talk: Direct Invitation, D0 or D0-CDF results Plenaries on a specific theme (like SUSY) with a significant amount of tevatron results What is a non-D0 talk? ---------------------- A talk not assigned by the SB, where D0-CDF results are shown in a small fraction of the talk (typically <25%). The D0 members are kindly asked to communicate to the SB all the conference/workshop talks in which D0 results appear (even for non-D0 talks), and provide copies of slides/procs to be linked to the DB. Assignment of talks: -------------------- The assignments are generally discussed for a group of conferences simultaneously (for instance winter conferences) during the SB meetings. An initial list is generally proposed by mail before the meeting, based on the recommendations received by all working groups and IB members (the SB will ask for recommendation updates every 6 months or so). The list is discussed, modified and finalized, if possible during the meeting. Speakers are invited within a week and are asked to respond within 72h. Speakers who have accepted appear on the SB web page, which is updated regularly. The SB aims at assigning the talks 2-3 months before the conference date. Special case: assignment of talks to Bureau members: ---------------------------------------------------- - The chairman and the spokespersons cannot be nominated by the Bureau. (they may accept direct conference invitations after informing the SB and receiving a positive answer from the SB). - The nomination of a Bureau member to a conferences is handled either by a restricted Bureau (chair, spokes, physics coordinator) before the standard meetings, or discussed via mail w/o copy to the interested member.
