Calorimeters
will not be replaced in Run II. However,
the new conditions
demanded an upgrade
to the calorimeter signal readout system. The new system needs to handle
a higher luminosity and collision rates.The data collected in successive
bunch crossings is therefore pipelined using switch capacitor gate arrays
(SCA's). The Timing and Control system generates the signals to control
all steps of the acquisition and processing of the detector signals. The
main elements of the T & C board are the Field Programmable Gate Array
chips (FPGA), electronic devices which can be programmed with digital circuits.
