Footprints


     There were footprints 
     On the sands 
     In Longfellow's Time
     And there are footprints 
     On the sands today
     Whose?  Where?
     Yours.  Mine.
     Dare we leave ours
     On the sands
     Today?
     Tomorrow?

       ?

     Notes: Intended for Poems on Trees, 1984. There are some 
            minor variations on "Dare ..." and the last few lines
            but I liked this one best. 
            It's the only one with tracks.
