Gavin Hesketh
I am a post-doc with Northeastern University, Boston.
Based at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois, I work on the D∅ experiment.
D∅ is a multi-purpose particle physics experiment, recording proton anti-proton collisions at a centre of mass energy of 1.96 TeV.

Currently I'm interested in the production of W and Z bosons in association with jets (V+jets) at D∅.
This is a very important signal, providing a precise test of perturbative QCD calculations - very important when we extrapolate those calculations to LHC energies.
It is the major background to many other things:
I'm working on unfolded differential cross sections in V+jets events.
By unfolding these distributions (correcting for detector resolution and acceptance) these results can be directly compared to any current or future theory.
Unfolding is itself a rather interesting a tricky subject.
I've written a C++ interface to the GURU unfolding package.
This is available in D∅ CVS, package name GURU; or you can download a tarball.
Some more information here.
Contact me with any questions or problems.
I am also currently co-convener of the V+jets Physics Group at D∅.
Photography takes up quite a bit of my free time.
