Ethernet-Based Data Acquisition at DØ


DØ is currently considering building an ethernet-based data acquisition, for which all components are commercially available.  The essential elements of the network schematics are shown in the figure below.


 

Single Board Computers (SBC) are used to read out the VME crates and send the data via a 100 Mbps connection to the level 3 trigger filtering nodes.  After filtering, accepted events are sent to the online system for data logging and storage.  Explicit routing of events from SBCs to the nodes is achieved by sending the SBC a node address for each event accepted by the level 2 trigger.  More detailed information is available in the Technical Design Report (see below).
