Subject: Evaluation Day Wed. 4/1/98 Dear Friends and Family, Sara, Stan and Brian slept at Happy House last night so they could walk across the street for their 7:30 a.m. app't instead of fighting rush hour traffic to S.F. They spent the day at the hospital and returned to Santa Rosa at 7:00 p.m. tonight just in time for Steven's school Open House. The results of all the tests (CTSCANs and bone marrow biopsy) are not available yet. It will take some time for all the results to be ready. Brian has not been able to keep any food down. They put an NJ tube into his intestines today. As soon as he woke up from the anesthesia, he vomited it out. The doctor who put it in, said that he had put it in very far and if Brian vomited it out, he would not reinsert it. The doctors gave him a steroid to try to break his cycle of vomiting. They changed his nauseau medication from Zophram back to Kytril. They also prescribed a medication to get his stomach working better; it will stimulate his stomach muscles. Brian's calves have atrophied so much that he now walks on his toes. His feet will not go to the normal 90 degree angle. They will buy him high top sneakers to wear at home. When he returns to the hospital, he will be fitted with leg braces. It was a long day for them. He has not lost any more weight. They hope that with the additional medications, he will start being able to keep down food. Now whenever he wakes up, he vomits. He will home until Monday, April 6th. Please pray that Brian starts to be able to keep down some food. Pray that his nauseau will be stopped. Love, Susan
