Tuesday, May 12, 1998 Dear Friends and Family, Clifford was an enormous hit on the children's floor at UCSF. Brian was thrilled to march his friend Clifford from room to room to visit the children and give them a Clifford book. Nurse Mary Beth lead us from room to room in a joyful parade and facilitated our book delivery. Some children could not have Brian and Clifford enter the room. They waved through the window on the door and Mary Beth delivered the books. All the children and nurses and hospital personnel were so happy to see Clifford making his way through the hallway. I captured every minute on film. Our parade caused many people to do a double-take as we went across the street (in the rain) to the clinic. Brian's new friend Dominick (also 4 years old) was getting chemo there. Dominick and his family were so happy to see Clifford. They too took pictures. Clifford gave books to all the children in the clinic receiving chemo. This is where Brian gets his out-patient treatments. It is a small room with 6 padded green chairs surrounded by IV poles and chairs for parents. Brian was so excited by this surprise visit. He told his mom, "I didn't know there was a real big Clifford." Brian held Clifford's hand and wore a big smile as they walked around. Steven also got a special book from Clifford---a third grade book. He had fun being involved in Clifford's visit. This was a special day for Teresa, her son Brian (Clifford) and I. We have been planning this for about 2 months and never did we dream that it could be so wonderful. We got to see many children whose faces lit up as soon as they saw Clifford. Even the adults all around us knew Clifford and smiled as he walked by. A huge thank you to Teresa and Brian for making this day possible. Thank you to our loving Father for this day. Love, Susan
