Subject: Back home Friday, May 29, 1998 Dear Family and Friends, Last night Brian was sent home from the hospital because they needed his room. He is still neutrapenic and his platelets are very low. They hooked him up with a backpack to wear that will be used to give him antibiotics. This backpack takes the place of the IV pole. His 6 day stay in the hospital went well. Brian's blood work this morning shows that he is still neutrapenic---low blood count. He must remain in isolation until his counts come up. Unfortunately, this means that he can't leave the house to attend the Relay for Life in Alameda on Saturday. He was hoping to be able to walk with other survivors at 11:00. He must continue to take the IV antibiotics while he is neutrapenic. He'll return to S.F. June 10th and stay in Happy House. He'll receive 6 hours of chemo on the 11th and 30 minutes of chemo on the 12th and then go home until he gets sick again. This will be his shortest round of treatment. Thank you for your continuing prayers. Brian's good cheer and increasing strength are a joy to see. He did not experience the many bad side-effects this round. He did not have any mucousitis and only a few high fevers. We feeled very blessed by these positive changes. Love, Susan
