The following table is a list of the QCD tapes which presently vaulted. If the description of the tape is not adequate, I suggest that you contact the owner.

Instructions for Vaulting QCD Tapes

The easiest way to do this is to ask me to do it for you.

However, if you are so inspired to do it yourself:

Purchase tape(s) (or get them/it from me) and copy data onto tape(s)

Be sure to use data grade tapes. They can be purchased in the stockroom: Stock Number 1780-0350 for $5.06/tape (as of 26 October, 1996).

Come to me with number of tape(s) to be vaulted and I'll give you the VSN number(s)
Give me appropriate information so that I can keep vault listing up to date
Fill out Tape Vaulting form (get it from me or FCC)
Label the tape(s) with:

VSN
Experiment or Group
Contact Person
E-mail address
Phone extension
Comments/description

Bring tape(s) and form to FCC

List of QCD files in FATMEN

I will do my best to keep an accurate list of all of the files which we have in FATMEN. As soon as I know this, I will make catalogue listings that you can download.

Using FATMEN QCD Tapes

In short, the entire point to FATMEN is: (from CERN Program Library Long Writeups Q123)

Access data via meaningful names (on first observation the names may not appear "meaningful")
Consistent access to data, regardless of host operating system, location, or medium on which data is stored
Support for multiple copies of data within network
Possibility of adding comments and other user information on datasets
No need to know any unerlying commands, such as STAGE, SETUP, etc. with their system dependent syntax

In order to use files which were FATMENed, one needs to:

Find the files in FATMEN (I intend to do this for you for QCD tapes)
Stage your files to disk (You can use this VMS example or this Unix example)
Run your program using the same list as you extracted in (1)

Occasionally, FATMEN is unsuccessful in staging all of the files to disk. In order to check whether or not they have all been staged:

Setup FATMEN as before
Go into FATMEN:
$ FM

this will give you the prompt "FM>"

Determine the names of the output files staged to disk corresponding to the list of files in your .GEN file:
FM> ls -br DIR*

where "DIR" is the directory structure from the .GEN file and "*" is a wildcard if you need it. What is then printed on your screen will contain the run and partition numbers, and the VID number.

Exit from FATMEN:
FM> exit
Now look for your files on the staging disks:
$ dir disk$stage:[d0]VID*

You should have as many files on the staging disks as you have in your .GEN file. If not, you can see which ones are missing and talk to the FATMEN czar.
