Run II D0 Muon ID Overview

D. Hedin 5-22-00

Goals

For |eta|<(1.8-2.0) want

  • eff > 0.90 for high pt muons (>15 GeV/c)
  • eff > 0.75 for low pt muons (2 GeV/c)
  • where "eff" includes geometrical acceptance, trigger efficiency for the loosest trigger requirement, and reconstruction efficiency. For muon-only triggers, bandwidth will require tighter trigger requirements.
  • Also have very large efficiency for muons in the central tracker

Maximize use of new muon ID elements

  • Increased scintillator counter coverage: reduce at trigger and eliminate offline cosmic rays and (central) combinatorics; ID slow particles with 0.3< Beta < 0.8
  • inner tracking: trigger element; improved matching and momentum; aids in eliminating combinatorics; remove more than 1/2 a-layer punchthroughs; standalone high efficiency, poor ID muon system

    Detector

  • Run II Muon Detector
  • central eta and phi coverage
  • end eta and phi coverage
  • Thickness versus Theta
  • Momentum Resolution .02+.002pt(inner) and .18+.003p(muon) at eta=0
  • Run I top event 79 and top event 417
