It took much longer to find a job than I had imagined. (Perhaps it was that arrogance that says physics is excellent training for any job...inflated my expectations.) But now I am now part of a two-member team of Quantitative Financial Analysts ("Quants"), working for a new spin-off from a trading company. I could not be happier about it: it is much better than I thought I would get breaking into a new field. My work is called "statistical arbitrage", and it is one of the latest financial paradigms. Care to see pictures of my new office ?
Dear all, I have decided to leave High Energy Physics and explore opportunities elsewhere. I wish you all the best, and I'm willing to continue to provide advice and (limited) support in the months to come. I'll let you all know where I land! In the meantime, updates to these pages will basically cease. My email addresses should be good for quite some time.
Apparently people liked my work on the "DØ Live" project. Professor Nigel Glover in the UK asked for my help to make some 5 minute presentations from the control room. He was presenting particle physics lectures on the hunt for the Higgs Boson to high school students in Durham. Here are my two presentations, Nigel decided to use the first one. Higgs 1, Higgs 2
I provided several live webcasts from the DØ Control Room. The presentations were broadcast from DØ to a supercomputing conference in Baltimore. The webcasts are archived here: DØ Live.
I have updated the only page I didn't shape up last month: the Physics Page. It now contains links to my recent talks, despite the overlap with the QCD web pages, which I also maintain. I decided that I would just have to put up with the overlap...
While on shift for three slo-o-o-w nights in a row, I updated many of the pages here. These pages were mostly written in three weeks when I was a grad student (I went a little nuts) and I put another chunk on every so often. It's hard to keep things up to date.
I kept a journal of the non-physics part of the China trip. It was written in little notes on my Palm V and fleshed out each evening. I transfered it to MS Word format. Enjoy!
From the 5th through the 11th I will be out of the country. I'm giving a 1 hour talk on QCD jet physics in Beijing China. What an opportunity!
I slightly freshed the web pages, removing images that were slow to load, rewording the intro on the welcome page.
I presented two talks at the Oklahoma Workshop, one on the status of QCD and the other on my lost jet studies. I bought a beat-up car from a DØ grad student who was going back to England, so I'm now the proud owner of a 1988 VW Fox! (Yes, I'm keeping the Z...)
I'm on vacation from July 20 to July 29.
