I have written some code that will backup several drives with just a few keystrokes. To use the code, you need to vault some tapes at the Feynman Center. Most of what you need you can get here. Click on what you need below, go up to 'file -- save frame as...' on your netscape window and you have it.
These packages contain several "idiot-proof" features, which were included after several painful lessons. I want to spare you that pain by making my code public. After you set up the following files, you can back up all your drives by typing "@back" (VMS) or "kback" (UNIX). That ain't so tough now, is it? (But the one-time setup can be time-consuming...just a warning.)
Download the following command files and text files. Change the logicals in the bootstrapper (BACK.COM) to match your working directory and the drives you want to protect.
This system is actually easier to use than the VMS setup! My scripts have now been released as an official Fermilab package (at least at DØ). At the d0cha/d0chb/d02ka command prompt, do
"setup kback".
Type "kback" with no arguments to get a brief help message and the location of the full documentation.
Note: at this time (Oct 99) current version of the kback code is "v_02". There is an outstanding issue with file recovery (it isn't yet easy). I'm working on it! Meanwhile, your files will at least be on tape...
