Online Monitoring Meeting Minutes April 15, 2002 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Present: Linda Stutte, Leslie Groer, Alan Stone, Joe Steele, Andriy Zatserklyaniy, Alan Jonckheere, Geoff Savage, Andrei Mayorov, Lisa Chabalina, Michiel Sanders, Bob Kehoe, Pushpa Bhat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Releases -------- Geoff and Alan J. proposed that the examines should start using production releases. We are currently using test releases for detector examines and plan to use production release for PhysExamine if necessary. After some discussions, we agreed upon the following: (1) For the time being (next 2-3 months) we will continue to use t releases for examines. (2) We (examine developers) shall try to release the examines code as soon as possible. (3) Set the goal to have up-to-date examines code in p12. When the code for various examines become stable, we can plan on using release builds in the control room. The other important discussion was on version control (Alan J.). One year down the road or so, will we care what code was used to produce a particular set of examine histograms in the control room? At present, the examines are normally built using the head versions of one or more packages. So it is difficult to know at a later time what version of the code was used. There were a lot of discussions on event selection using run number or triggers or streams etc. Pushpa reiterated the proposal that we should identify a finite number (8-10) of stream names such as "global" (or "all"), "cosmics," "zero_bias," "cal_test," "cft_test," "daq_test," "mu_test," etc. that can be used as a switch while starting the respective examines. (Can provide appropriate rcp files). There was a consensus that this should be done. There will be an expert meeting involving a few people later this week to settle this issue and to proceed with implementation. Trigger Examine ------- ------- Bob Kehoe has been developing L1Cal examine. He has been plotting histograms of trigger tower energies in (eta, phi). He had a few problems with read_event_daq which were resolved after the meeting. Joe Steele said that he has a L2 Trigger examine and is at the stage of figuring what histograms are needed. No real progress on L3 Muo examine yet. Martijn has some raw data files from special mark and pass runs available on disk to study the online performance of L3 Muon Filters. Andriy will look at these and report on it next week. PhysExamine ----------- Michiel reported that he has successfully built PhysExamine with t02.08.00 on the online machine and has been processing events with it. He is testing his macros. ExamineMgr ---------- Pushpa described what the ExamineMgr currently does and how to use it with detector or trigger examine packages. ExamineMgr currently works with both root_gui and histoscope and has been tested online. A "TestExamine" has been provided for people to see how to implement it with their own package.
