The Level 2 Trigger Examine macros produce several histograms. Each histogram has a reference plot (the red solid line) from a past run, with data points (the black crosses) from the current run. The Global Monitor shifter is asked to watch for discrepancies between these plots.
If you notice any discrepancies, please alert the appropriate detector expert in the control room (for example, if there is a hole in the Global EM objects phi plot, ask the calorimeter shifter if he sees the same hole at the detector level). If the discrepancy looks like a trigger problem, alert the DAQ shifter (to see if he/she can explain it), then call the L2 pager.
Global plots: The first group of histograms show quantities that have passed the Level 2 trigger.
1) number of L2 Global jets The number of jets in each event. 2) P_T of L2 Global jets The measured Pt of each jet (GeV). 3) eta of L2 Global jets Detector eta, from -2.4 to 2.4, of the jet seed tower. 4) phi of L2 Global jets Detector phi, from 0 to 2*pi, of the jet seed tower. 5) eta vs phi of L2 Global jets Scatter plot of plots #3 vs. #4. 6) number of L2 Global em objects The number of EM objects in each event. 7) P_T of L2 Global em objects The measured Pt of each EM object (GeV). 8) eta of L2 Global em objects Detector eta, from -2.4 to 2.4, of each EM object. 9) phi of L2 Global em objects Detector phi, from 0 to 2*pi, of each EM object. 10) eta vs phi of L2 Global em objects Scatter plot of plots #8 vs. #9. 11) isolation of L2 Global em objects (ET of seed + largest neighbor towers) /(ET of 3x3 array of towers around seed) 12) EM Fraction of Global L2 em objects EM fraction for each EM object, from 0 to 1. 13) number of L2 Global muons The number of muons in each event. 14) P_T threshold of L2 Global muons Pt threshold passed by the muon. 15) eta of L2 Global muons Detector eta, from -2.4 to 2.4, of each muon. 16) phi of L2 Global muons Detector eta, from -2.4 to 2.4, of each muon. 17) eta vs phi of L2 Global muons Scatter plot of plots #15 vs. #16. 18) quality of L2 Global muons Muon quality. 1 = loose track 2 = medium track 3 = tight track 19) sign of L2 Global muons Sign of each muon, 0 = negative and 1 = positive.
Preprocessor plots (or Worker plots): The remaining plots are from the Level 2 preprocessors (or L2 workers). They show the quantities that were passed to the L2 Global processor - the trigger inputs before cutting.
